A couple of weeks ago I had a post in which I noted that while I have mobile IPv4v6 connectivity while I’m in my home country, I get IPv4-only connectivity when roaming by default. Now it looks like this is not universally true anymore.
It seems some network operators are not yet able to handle messages that request IPv6 connectivity so IPv6 capable Android phones can be configured in the APN settings to request an IPv4-only or an IPv4v6 connection at home and while roaming separately. I’ve set my device to IPv4v6 for roaming by default and was pleasantly surprised when I recently went to Austria that my mobile was assigned an IPv4 and an IPv6 address as can be seen in the screenshot on the left. Slowly but steadily, IPv6 is spreading!
