In the previous post, I’ve had a look at the Anker Prime 200W A1336 power bank and its features. One thing I wanted to do a separate post on is the simultaneous charging and discharging feature.
As my previous power bank could only have been charged or discharged at a time, I was very positively surprised that I could charge the power bank via one USB port while at the same time charging other devices via the other two USB ports. This comes in quite handy, for example, when the power bank, my notebook and my smartphones are already partly or fully discharged and I only have a single charger with me. The charger then goes to the power bank while the notebook is also connected to the power bank. And the smartphone, you guessed it, is connected to the notebook to take power from there. Three devices charged with a single charger that only has one USB port. Nifty!
But there is one thing: When connecting or disconnecting the charger to/from the power bank, the charging on the other ports stops for a moment, probably due to USB port capability renegotiation. While this is not a problem for devices with their own batteries such as a notebook or smartphone, devices without their own battery will reboot. Which is probably not what you want 🙂 But it’s good to know, because that’s definitely a limitation.
