And a quick afterthought to my general comparison post on Wi-Fi Direct vs. Bluetooth. With Bluetooth 3.0 a feature called 3.0 HS was introduced to couple Bluetooth for authentication and initiation of the connection and Wi-Fi for transfer of the actual data. Published at around the same time as Wi-Fi direct (see my posts here and here from back in 2010) I don't see it implemented in any of the major smartphones today. Quite a pity as this would fix the issue with the missing profiles for standardized exchange of files. At the moment 3.0+HS very much looks like a feature that runs in the "nice idea but never implemented" category.
